Marvin Koner Archive – FAQs

The Marvin Koner Archive preserves, displays, and presents for sale the work of mid-century American photojournalist Marvin Koner.  Produced from original photographic materials and issued in documented limited editions, the prints serve as lasting records of the people, places, and cultural moments that shaped the twentieth century.

About the Archive

For nearly four decades, American photojournalist Marvin Koner, traveled the world capturing the people, places and personalities that shaped the latter half of the 20th century. Koner photographed dozens of cultural icons including Miles Davis, Johnny Cash, Martin Luther King Jr., Eleanor Roosevelt, Margaret Mead, and Frank Lloyd Wright, as well as photographic essays across the United States and Europe.

His photographs are held in the permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the International Center of Photography.

Koner’s work originally appeared in Life, Fortune, LOOK, Redbook, McCall’s, Pageant, and Esquire magazines. 

The Marvin Koner Archive is a family-managed collection of Koner’s photographic work. It preserves original materials and makes selected images available for purchase as limited-edition archival prints. Profits from the Marvin Koner Archive’s sales support Family-to-Family, a hunger relief non-profit  founded by Marvin Koner’s daughter, Pam Koner. Family-to-Family connects American families with “more” directly with families in need, providing long-term, person-to-person support.

Prints & Production

Prints are made to order using archival pigment printing from Marvin Koner’s original photographic materials, which include his original slides and negatives.

Yes. Each photograph is produced as a limited edition of 40 prints total. All sizes count toward the same edition.

No, because they are produced after the photographer’s lifetime. Instead, Pam Koner, the photographer’s daughter, signs each certificate of authenticity, which also documents the print’s edition information. 

Prints are produced using archival pigment printing on baryta paper (such as Canson Baryta Prestige II or similar), selected for long-term stability.

Prints are sold unframed.

Custom sizes may be available by request and are subject to review, as significant changes in aspect ratio may not be suitable for every image.
